Who are we?

Introducing GSACC committee members, volunteers from around our region.

Len Smith, Chairman
Member since July 2000
Len is the proprietor of the Comfort Inn, Albany.  Len is involved in a number of committees including TAFE WA Great Southern, Port Community Liaison Committee and a number of tourism industry bodies.  Len was the winner of the 2005 Sir David Brand Tourism Award and has received many other accolades.

Kerry Palmer, Secretary
Member since June 1995
Kerry is the proprietor of the Goose’s Bridle Antique Shop in Katanning, while also working as a private training consultant.  Kerry has background in employment training and facilitation.

Alan Triplett, Treasurer
Member since September 2001
Alan is the Manager of Great Southern Personnel and has 25 years background in employment services in the Lower Great Southern, the last five years specifically in Disability Employment.  He is heavily involved in junior soccer in Albany.

Louise Hillman
Member since June 1995
Louise is the Lead Fostering Change Facilitator with the South Coast Natural Resource Management, a community-based organisation operating across the South Coast Region.  Louise has been involved in many committees and boards, including being the former Chair of the Great Southern Employment Development Committee, member of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Company, Green Skills, Great Southern Youth Committee, Regional Indigenous Affairs Coordinating Committee, Albany Worklink, Kojonup Working, Kent 2010 and Denmark Education and Innovation Committee.  She has extensive experience in growing regional capacity and employment development initiatives and has been involved in developing and implementing a range of programmes, including skills training, both accredited and non-accredited, with a particular focus on regional needs.

Sue Bennett-Ng
Member since September 1995
Sue is a Senior Director with the Great Southern TAFE, with responsibility for the strategic and academic support of the organisation.  Sue has extensive networks within training and employment across the state.  She has vast government experience in education and training, including National Advisory Bodies to the vocational sector and the WA Local Government Industry Training Advisory Body.  Sue served as an elected member of the City of Fremantle Council for several terms, before moving to Albany. 

Charles Hick
Member since June 1999
Charles is a local farmer. 

Randall Jasper
Member since September 2001
Randall is the Business Manager of The University of Western Australia, Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management in Albany, looking after the development and operations of the CENRM, including its partnerships in the community.

Mechelle Kerr
Member since December 2001
Mechelle is farmer in Frankland.  She is also the Deputy President of the Shire of Cranbrook.  Mechelle is involved in many aspects of her community, including the Frankland Telecentre, the Town Scape and Development Group, production of the local Frankland paper, coordinator of the monthly Community Lunches and the Unicup Progress Association.  She is also actively involved in landcare and areas of diversification on her family's farming property.

Sue Martin
Member since November 2003
Sue is a teacher/trainer working with young people through SWL, Community Development Employment Projects, TAFE and at Albany Senior High School.  She has a passion for community service, particularly exploring ways for youth to reach their potential to become effective community members.  She has developed and facilitated courses to empower children and parents.  Sue is an experienced snooker player, having represented Australia and winning many State titles. 

Rhonda Williams
Member since November 2003
Rhonda is a farmer and a Shire Councillor in the Shire of Jerramungup.  She is currently a Council member for the South Coast Natural Resource Management Inc and is a member of the South Coast Management Group.  Rhonda has been a High School Business Education teacher.

Andrew Brown
Member since December 2006
Andrew moved to Albany in 2005 with his family and enjoys the sea change lifestyle.  He has 15 years experience in the health and beauty industry and has built up extensive business networks within Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and, to a lesser extent, in the US, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and the UK.

Geoff Bowley
Member since December 2006
In January 2006 Geoff retired from the position of State Manager, Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training. He has a very strong interest in the improvement of educational outcomes for Indigenous students through major strategic and funding involvement with the government, catholic and independent school sectors. Geoff has extensive service delivery and senior management experience with labour market programmes, regional development and industry-based training, at both regional and Statewide levels in Western Australia.

Janet Savage
Member since January 2007
Jan has lived in the Shire of Gnowangerup since 1975. Jan has been a Councillor with the Shire of Gnowangerup for 20 years, becoming Deputy Shire President in 1994, then Shire President in 1995.  While still a Councillor, Jan stepped down from the President’s position in October 2007.  She has represented the Council on several regional committees including Great Southern Regional Refuse Committee and the Great Southern Regional Road Group.  Jan is currently involved with many community groups, including Ongerup Community Centre Management Committee and Ongerup Telecentre, Malleefowl Preservation Group and the Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre. In 1991 Jan was appointed as a Justice of the Peace and carries out bench work in Ongerup, as well as other associated duties of Justice. Jan was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to local government and to the community of the Shire of Gnowangerup through a range of tourism, historical, sporting and civic organisations in 2005.  Jan has a good knowledge of the Great Southern region and has a wide range of contacts.

Russell Pritchard
Member since 2007
Russell is the Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Great Southern Development Commission. He has extensive links with relevant government departments, with a focus on economic and business networks.
